A SYSTEM, NOT JUST A HEATER BODY

What is a skid-mounted thermal oil heater?

A skid-mounted thermal oil heater combines the heater and agreed auxiliaries on a common base or coordinated modules. It circulates a liquid heat-transfer fluid to process users and back to the heater. The skid can reduce the amount of equipment assembly at site, but it still needs engineered site connections and commissioning.

Thermal oil heater, thermic fluid heater and thermal fluid heater are commonly used names for this type of indirect heating equipment. “Hot oil heater” or “hot oil boiler” usually describes the same liquid-phase duty; the oil is not normally boiled. The selected fluid and its temperature limits must be checked for the application.

01 / HEAT

Heater & firing equipment

Gas- or oil-fired heater, matched burner and fuel equipment. Specify natural gas, LPG, diesel or the exact liquid fuel; a change of fuel is not automatically supported by every burner.

02 / CIRCULATE

Pumps, pipework & valves

Match flow and pump head to the whole process loop. Confirm duty/standby needs, minimum heater flow, isolation, strainers, instruments and the connection points at the skid boundary.

03 / HANDLE FLUID

Expansion & storage

Review the complete system oil volume, expansion allowance, tank location, venting and filling/draining arrangement. Tank positions and installation height are project-specific.

04 / INTEGRATE

Structure, controls & documents

Agree the base, access, controls, interlocks and documentation scope. Transport envelope, lifting, site assembly and commissioning responsibilities belong in the quotation.

Scope varies with the contract. A photograph is not a bill of materials, a piping diagram or evidence that every pictured item is included in every quotation.

FROM PACKAGE TO SITE

Plan the installed system as carefully as the skid.

The field photograph shows another gas/oil thermal-oil package arrangement. The base, elevated tank structure, heater and circulation equipment show why access, overall height and connection locations matter alongside heat output.

The two images illustrate the same product category, not identical configurations. They should not be used to infer a shared capacity, model, project country or supply scope.

What remains to be done at site?

  • Confirm foundation loads, anchoring, lifting access and maintenance clearance.
  • Connect the process supply and return, fuel supply, power, earthing and agreed controls.
  • Complete the engineered flue, combustion-air, ventilation and fluid-handling arrangements.
  • Have qualified personnel perform the required checks, fluid filling and commissioning under approved procedures.

Skid-mounted does not mean “plug in and run.” Final design, safeguards and installation must meet the project requirements and applicable local rules.

A compact package is useful when the project benefits from coordinated equipment and clear installation interfaces. Review the actual heat users, available fuel and access before deciding on the layout.

BUYER QUESTIONS

Skid-mounted thermal fluid heater FAQ

Are thermal oil heater, thermic fluid heater and thermal fluid heater the same?

In this product category, these terms commonly refer to indirect process heating with a circulating liquid heat-transfer fluid. Selection still depends on the actual fluid, heat duty, temperatures, fuel and system design. The terminology alone does not define the equipment specification.

What is included in a skid-mounted thermal oil heater?

The agreed package can combine the heater, matched firing equipment, circulation pumps, valves, pipework, tanks and controls on a common base or coordinated modules. Final inclusion, tank location, external connections and accessories must be listed in the approved quotation and drawings.

Can the same skid run on both gas and diesel?

Only if the specified burner and fuel systems are designed for that duty. State the gas composition and pressure, liquid-fuel grade and required changeover arrangement before selection. Gas-only equipment should not be assumed to support an oil backup.

Is a skid-mounted hot oil heater ready to operate on arrival?

No. A package can reduce site assembly but still requires suitable foundations, process and fuel connections, electrical work, flue and ventilation provisions, checks and commissioning by qualified personnel under the approved project procedures.

How much does a skid-mounted thermic fluid heater cost?

There is no reliable single price without a defined duty and supply boundary. Heat output, fluid temperatures, burner and fuel train, pump arrangement, tank sizing, controls, materials, documentation, shipping and site-service scope all affect the quotation.

Do these photographs show the same capacity and configuration?

No. They illustrate the skid-mounted gas/oil thermal-oil product category. The presentation image has been digitally retouched; the site photograph shows another arrangement. Neither image should be used to infer a shared model, rating, country or exact bill of materials.
